| UGP is making reduce, recycle, and reuse the design dogma for this building project. The shipping container skeleton will be modified to allow for open spaces that span multiple containers. The build team will first be tasked with designing the ultimate green structure with standard materials. Then the team will be challenged to replace as much of the buildings materials with items that are discarded by other projects, manufacturing lines, or have met their useful life requirements for their originally designed task. This will take the design out of the office and into the streets, factories, and industrial parks of the greater Philadelphia area to translate reduce, recycle, and reuse into a working UGP test center.It is more expensive to ship empty containers back to China than it is to make new ones.Thanks to a trade deficit shipping containers are now building up in our nation’s port cities.Philly is one of those cities with an excess of containers. |
